Purely self indulgent character design for Marlfoxes (from Brian Jacques’ Redwall novels)….. They’re described as ‘mottled’ and I’ve never seen anyone show that!

Alan Gutierrez, 1980, as an assignment for the Art Center College Of Design. The artist, writing on DeviantArt, says it was “most likely done for some kind of ‘seashore’ assignment, I later added the planet, but all else is as it was then.”
about a year ago this piece received a HUGE amount of feedback on twt, and I feel so grateful because this piece means a lot to me emotionally even now
